2018-2019 Enrollment

How do I enroll my student at Horizon Honors for the 2018-2019 school year?

To apply for enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year, parents must submit a Lottery Form for their student. The deadline for Lottery Form submission is January 19, 2018.

2018-2019 Lottery Form

Parents will receive an automated e-mail immediately after the Lottery Form is received.

Should more students complete Lottery Forms than there are enrollments offers available for the next school year, a Lottery will be held. The 2018-2019 Lottery is January 26, 2018 at 9 a.m. You do NOT have to be present at the Lottery to enroll.

The Lottery will determine the students to be enrolled and the order of the waiting list for each grade level. During the Lottery process, a computer program generates a list of participating Lottery students in random name order for each grade level. These lists are then used to assign available enrollment offers. For example, 30 fourth grade students participate in the Lottery, and there are 25 enrollment offers. The first 25 students on the computer-generated list will receive an enrollment offer. The last 5 students will remain on a waiting list in the order that the computer generated the names.

After the lottery, parents of students who receive a space will receive a welcome e-mail with specific instructions on how to register. Those on the waiting list will receive an e-mail with the wait list number.

Because the number of enrollment offers fluctuate and vary by grade level, we cannot tell prospective families in advance the number of enrollment offers available.

After the Lottery Form submission deadline, parents must submit an Enrollment Application for their student. Enrollment Applications are submitted online. After the lottery, offers of enrollment are filled on a first come, first served basis, beginning with the wait list.

What do I do if my child receives an offer of enrollment?

Congratulations, your student is now allowed to register for the 2018-2019 school year! After being contacted by our registrar’s office, you will have 24 hours to accept your offer, and 48 hours to submit your paperwork, including birth certificate, registration form, and immunization records. You will then be contacted to schedule appointments to complete the registration process and for your child to take a class placement evaluation.

What if my child is on the waiting list?

Depending on availability, there are sometimes wait lists for some grade levels. When an offer of enrollment becomes available, the parents of the first student on the waiting list will be contacted. If that student declines his/her space, then the next student will be called, etc. Students will remain on the waiting list for the entire school year. Families who do not receive an offer of enrollment during the 2018-2019 school year must complete the enrollment process again for the 2019-2020 school year.

What if one of my children receives a spot, but a sibling is on the waiting list?

Our schools expect a high level of parental involvement in the learning process.  In recognition of this commitment, enrollment preference is given to siblings of students enrolled if an offer of enrollment is available.

Can my child be placed at a grade higher/lower based on his/her ability level instead of age?

Students are placed on the waiting list according to age, the last grade completed, and class placement evaluation results.

Why doesn’t the waiting list roll over from year to year?

The waiting list restarts every year for a number of reasons. We are not always sure if families are still interested in Horizon Honors for the following school year. We also make changes to curriculum, activities, etc. and want to make sure that families come to an info session, get notified of the changes, and then complete the enrollment process.
